Jonahan Mahan

Jonathan writes great, personal songs and has a cool, intimate guitar style that blows me away.  We finished two songs last month and will be continuing at the end of the year.  He’s a young lad (compared to me anyway) but wise beyond his years, and it shows in his lyrics.  Stay tuned for more.

Jimmy Livingstone

I am currently producing Jimmy Livingstone, who is a great singer/songwriter from London.  His sound is, well, BIG.  We have strings and horns on some tunes, the latter being contributed by Bruce Fowler, Walt Fowler and Albert Wing.  Doug Pettibone has added some burning guitar, andButch Norton came in a few weeks ago to add percussion on 7 or 8 tunes.

The music is amazing, and as we finish (December) we’ll be posting some.

Little Honey in the Top Ten!

October 24th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

Lucinda William’s “Little Honey” entered the Billboard charts at # 9 yesterday.  This is the highest chart position ever in Lucinda’s 30 year career.  It is also the highest chart position of anything I have ever worked on.

We are all so proud of this record.  Cheers Lu!

Finally, my picture in Rolling Stone!

Yep, the October 30th issue, with Barak Obama on the cover, page 56.  It’s tiny, and I look like I’ve just swallowed an earwig, but I’ll take it! Cheers to Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show!

Being Sick

Note to all:  Next time you see someone struggling with a bottle top, or having trouble getting their feet to do what they want them to do, remember, it could be you–in a flash.

I spent the last week in bed, and still I can’t properly sign my name.  Be nice to each other!

Be prepared!

October 14th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Lucinda Williams

A few weeks back, we had listening party to introduce the film and TV music community to the Lucinda Williams’ new one, now known as “Little Honey”.

We booked studio A at the Village, and set up catering, couches and chairs in the live room.  I prepared a 96k version of the mastered CD to play back.  Everybody came, we were 5 minutes from starting and….BOOM!  Transformers outside started blowing and we lost power.

We were outside discussing getting generators, etc., then I had an idea.  I realized I had an inverter in my car–I use it mainly to blow up air mattresses when we go camping–so we ran an extension into the studio and powered a CD player, Genelecs and a Mackie Big Knob.  It worked, and we had our showcase after all, by candle light.  We ended up with Robbie Robertson, Ed Cherney and T Bone Burnett’s whole session in there with us. We were the only music on the block.

Of course, immediately after the guests left, the lights came back on.

I’ll be chuckling about this for a few days!
